La Valenciana is technically located a few kilometers north of Guanajuato. To get there, hike on up or hop on the "Cristo Rey" or "Valenciana" buses that leave from the Alhóndiga every 15 minutes.
La Valenciana is, so to speak, "where it all began." The mine produced 20% of the world's silver and for hundreds of years and sat Guanajuato comfortably on the lap of luxury- well, at least those who benefitted from the miners' labor. The nearby La Valenciana church, a stunning example of Mexican Baroque architecture, certainly attests to the surge of wealth that provided Guanajuato with colonial mansions, elegant churches and much more!
